Saffron Tofu

As an Iranian, I would love everyone who is interested in Persian food to have an opportunity to savor it even if they have some dietary restrictions. That is why Spice of Life sauces are very diet friendly, and I adopted lots of Persian recipes to be enjoyed by everyone.

This recipe is inspired by a very popular dish called Saffron chicken.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • Extra firm tofu, 16 oz drained, dried and chopped to 1 inch cubes

  • Lemon, 1 juiced

  • Yellow onion, 1 finely chopped

  • Garlic clove, 2 minced

  • Dried turmeric, ¼ tsp

  • Saffron, ¼ tsp ground and brewed in 1 cup of boiled water

  • Salt, 1 tsp

  • Freshly ground black Pepper, ½ tsp

  • Extra virgin olive oil, 2 tbsp

Method

  1. Dry the tofu with a paper towel, and cut them into one inch cubes.

  2. Combine all the ingredients in a big bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least an hour or overnight.

  3. Warm up a grill pan over a high heat stove-top.

  4. Take the marinated tofu pieces out of the fridge and place them over a hot grill pan.

  5. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes/ until browned and heated through, turning once.

  6. Serve it with one of our sauces over Persian Saffron Rice.

Happy Cooking!
